Description

The National Museum of Australia has been a long time coming; the idea can be traced back to the time of Federation in

1901. The Museum was designed by architects Ashton Raggatt McDougall and Robert Peck von Hartel Trethowan. The project originated with an International Design Competition which the architects won in 1997, and it sits on an eleven hectare site on the Acton Peninsula on Lake Burley Griffin. This monograph looks at three aspects of the NMA complex: the architecture of the National Museum of Australia and the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies buildings, the landscape, and the exhibitions in the National Museum - through many pairs of eyes.
